NO further action is being taken against a suspect in a hit-and-run investigation after a child was seriously injured.
Shortly after 4.15pm on Tuesday, September 12, last year, Cheshire Police was called to reports of a collision on the A49 Winwick Road.
The incident occurred near to Warrington and Vale Royal College, involving a silver Audi A6 and a pedal cyclist.
It was reported at the time that the driver of the car failed to stop at the scene, and that the vehicle was later found abandoned by officers in an alleyway near Longford Street and Rhodes Street.
The cyclist, a 16-year-old boy, was rushed to hospital by air ambulance for treatment to his injuries, with Winwick Road in both directions for several hours.
Cheshire Police confirmed that the boy sustained potentially life-changing injuries and issued a CCTV appeal on October 12 to find a suspect.
By November 23, the force confirmed that officers had arrested a 25-year-old man, of the Warrington area, in relation to the incident.
The man was arrested today on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
However, it has now been confirmed more than 11 months on that the suspect has been released without charge, with no further action to be taken against him.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Following an investigation into a serious fail-to-stop collision on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, that occurred on A49 Winwick Road, Warrington, a 25-year-old local man has been released without charge, and there is no further action due to a lack of evidence.”
