A PROMISING young golfer has qualified for the finals of a major junior golf championship.
Bradley Barry Quayle, 14, will travel to Spain to compete in the European Junior Open finals in November.
The West Lakes Academy pupil began playing golf aged 12 and has junior memberships at Seascale, Workington and Silloth golf clubs.
He got into the junior county team and has since won the under 14s county championship.
Bradley, of Egremont, said: “I set off with a playing handicap of 45 but that came down quickly because my dad plays golf too so I really wanted to beat him.
“I currently play off a handicap of three but I really want to play off scratch.
“I really enjoy playing junior golf at Workington where I have made some good friends. Dave Coombe has been brilliant managing our team and looking after us all.”
Last season Bradley made it into the men's scratch team at Seascale and travelled around the county playing against different clubs and courses.
He said: “The current captain of Seascale Golf Club, Brian O’Kane, has helped me tremendously on and off the course especially with funding from My England Golf.
“I have just qualified to take part in the European junior open Under 18s finals by winning recently at Preston GC with a gross score of 71.
“My family and I are absolutely delighted and I can't wait to get there and compete.
“I would really like to take this opportunity to thank my golf sponsor, Lee Butterworth from Xtreme Fitness and obviously my parents and grandparents for all their kind support as I would have struggled without them.”
Brian O'Kane, captain of Seascale Golf Club, said: "All credit to Bradley - his sheer determination and dedication to golf has paid off massively.
"Anyone who has played alongside him is totally impressed by both his ability and his personality. Looking to the future, many would hope to see his progress continue into the highest ranks of the game... one day the Open Championship?
"Following in the shoes of another Seascale member, Simon Young. We all wish him the very best."
