Greater Manchester Police officers on patrol in Bolton town centre have charged people with shoplifting.

PC Parkinson and PC Taylor were in the town last night reassuring other shop owners and the community that they were cracking down on theft and other crimes in the area.

Over three days, four people were charged on shoplifting charges, providing further reassurance to businesses, that crime would be stopped.

A spokesman for the police said: "This evening PC Parkinson and PC Taylor of Bolton's shoplifting team have been in Bolton town centre providing reassurance to the local community, along with crime prevention advice to our local retail stores.

"Over the last three days, Bolton's shoplifting team have obtained shoplifting charges for four people who believed the law did not apply to them.

"We will continue to robustly manage retail crime, and work with partners to tackle this issue."

Recently, police were in town investigating shoplifting reports.

As part of the crackdown, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) team deployed newly recruited officers, supported by senior officers, into Bolton town centre over the last few months to help support security staff and identify theft hotspots.

Earlier this year police said that shoplifting is an issue in the town centre, as it is across the country.

Since officers set up a dedicated taskforce to tackle the crime, there has been a large number of arrests made for shoplifting, vehicle crime, and burglaries across the borough.
