AN investigation into the cause of a fire in a building ‘due for renovation’ is under way.
Emergency services were called to the ‘huge’ fire on Stockham Lane in Runcorn at around 5.35pm last night.
Firefighters tackled the blaze and remained at the scene overnight, dampening down the area and checking temperatures.
A crew will remain at the scene throughout the day, regularly monitoring the building.
One fire engine from Widnes attended the incident as well as one from Frodsham, one from Penketh, and one from Runcorn.
A water bowser from Ellesmere Port also attended.
Local residents were asked to keep doors and windows closed due to the amount of smoke and members of the public were advised to avoid the area.
According to a Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
