More than 150 people attended an event at Northallerton Town Hall to give their views on what they would like to see in future transport plans.

Organised by the three local councils, Northallerton, Romanby and Brompton, councillors wanted to find out what people thought and how they wanted to see future policies developing.

Councillor Andrew Hugill told Northallerton Town Council this week it had been a successful event with people keen to give their points of view. A report is being prepared which will be fed through to North Yorkshire Council for future consideration in the local transport plan.

Of the topics considered, which covered, buses, trains, walking, cycling, driving, taxis, parking, congestion and level crossings, they had the most responses to the issue of buses. Visitors were given Tesco tokens to use on the issues they felt most strongly about.

Cllr Hugill said people were very engaged and they had more than 250 responses.

He added: “The really positive thing was the number of people who actually set down considered comments and spent their time over it. They set down what was important to them which is hugely important when you are trying to take this kind of thing forward.

“Out of the topics they were asked about, the one that attracted the most comments was buses, people were very concerned about the lack of bus services in and around Northallerton.”

He said North Yorkshire Council officers had attended. Mayoral candidates for this year's election had also been invited.

Cllr Hugill said the town council will be bringing a report back for consideration and would be in negotiation with North Yorkshire Council over how that could be fed into the future transport plan.
