WARRINGTON Rylands suffered a crushing 5-0 defeat at lower division Colne to exit the FA Trophy at the first-round stage.

Blues went behind in the first minute and it went downhill from there, conceding another three goals before the break, having Kane Drummond sent off in the second half and to top it off having a late penalty saved.

It leaves Jody Banim's embarrassed side without a win in five outings.

Colne, defeated 2-0 at home by Rylands on their way to last season's title success, have only won three games in the league this season and are sat in the relegation zone of Northern Premier League West.

But Reds could not have got off to a finer start in this one, playing up the Holt House slope in the first half.

Craig Carney, who netted twice as Colne won 3-2 at Hyde United in the previous round, found the net after only a minute.

That advantage was doubled in the 13th minute when Oliver Roberts curled home a free kick.

The Reds supporters, who had been left flat by two previous home defeats, were in dream land as Owen Watkinson (26) and Thomas Hoyle (33) made it 4-0 for half time.

Blues' Drummond saw red for a foul in the 52nd minute and then Enock Lusiama completed the scoring 10 minutes later.

It was the first time Colne had scored more than three goals in a game this season to date.
