A POPULAR town centre restaurant located in a historic building is set to receive a fresh new look.

Ask Italian, based in Old Market Square, has been visited by pizza and pasta fans for a good number of years.

An application has now been submitted to Warrington Borough Council for listed building consent in relation to the Grade II-listed building.

The proposal is for new signage to the exterior of the building, as well as the painting of the render, main entrance door and window frames.

Specifically, the plans seek permission for the installation of high-level illuminated text bearing the Ask Italian name to the front of the restaurant to replace existing.

The plans also cover a replacement projection sign, two internally illuminated menus, a non-illuminated poster holder with text and the retention of four non-illuminated awnings.

In addition, the application seeks approval to paint the render, entrance door and window frames in shades of green.

A document submitted as part of the application states: “Our design team has looked at all aspects of upgrading the signage at this site and has always been aware to produce a design concept that compliments the listed building and surrounding area.

“We feel the subtle change in the signage will have no detrimental impact on the building and surrounding units

“The majority of signage is like-for-like, and we are merely doing a refurbishment and refresh of the signage to bring it up to date and attract custom to the area.”
