FREQUENT anti-social behaviour is frustrating residents in Lymm as their lives are being made a misery.

A number of incidents have been reported to housing association Torus and Warrington Borough Council over recent months.

These are centred around the Pool Lane and Oldfield Road area of the village, with multiple residents reporting anti-social behaviour.

One told the Warrington Guardian: “There is loud music and parties which go on until the early hours, as well as a very strong smell of cannabis coming properties.

“The partying carries on for months, sometimes five days a week, with drinking and drug taking, but also verbal and physical violence.

“Without a choice, the issues and anti-social behaviour was reported. It took around 40 emails to the housing association and the council to act.

“There are some good people here who have sent more than a hundred emails about noise and anti-social behaviour. People have complained about the issues, but nothing is being done.”

In response to the concerns, Scott Cooke, Torus’ service lead for Safer Estates, said: that Torus takes complaints and instances of anti-social behaviour very seriously.

“We are aware of this complaint and our Safer Estates team have been working with key partners such as Cheshire Police to try and resolve this matter,” he explained.

“This work is ongoing, and we are continuing to try and contact the complainant to gain more information and provide updates.

“Anti-social behaviour cases are often a result of complex issues that can only be addressed by several agencies, including the police and local authorities, working in partnership, which can take time.

“Unfortunately, this process is not always a simple one – it can take time to resolve, and sometimes relies on victims providing evidence to support allegations.

“We do understand that anti-social behaviour can cause distress to neighbours and the wider community, and while we cannot comment in detail on individual cases, we always strive to tackle such issues, ensuring that we support victims and complainants in an effective and sensitive way.

“As an organisation, we do take possession proceedings against perpetrators of anti-social behaviour if it is reasonable and proportionate, however this action is always taken as a last resort and when all other measures have been explored.

“A further review of this case is scheduled for later in the month.”

A Warrington Borough Council spokesman added: “We take all complaints of anti-social behaviour seriously.

“We will review the concerns raised by the residents with our partners – Torus and Cheshire Police – to establish what reports they have received concerning these properties and what action is being taken.

“Complaints can be made to the us via warrington.gov.uk/anti-social-behaviour and Cheshire Police can be called directly via 101.

“Alternatively, members of the public can call Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.”
