FRESH from conquering Europe, can Warrington rower Lucy Glover and her Great Britain teammates now put themselves on top of the world?

The former Lymm High School student and Warrington Rowing Club member has been confirmed as part of a 50-strong British team heading to the Czech Republic for the World Rowing Championships later this month.

The 23-year-old, who now rows for Edinburgh University, will be joined in the women’s quadruple sculls team by Leander Club trio Jess Leyden, Lola Anderson and Georgie Bradshaw in Racice.

Glover and her teammates are in fine form having become the first Team GB women’s quad to win gold at the European Championships in a decade last month.

Commenting on the team selection, Louise Kingsley, British Rowing Director of Performance said: “We have a fantastic group of athletes who have worked hard and stepped up as we have progressed through the season, winning medals at World Cup and European regattas.

“I’m sure the rest of the world are stepping on too, so we now have one final push to deliver on the biggest stage of the season.

“We are coming into the World Championships on the back of European success, where we topped the medal table, and several weeks of training camps to get us in the best shape possible to compete in Racice.

“Results here will give the athletes, coaches and support staff across both our Olympic and Paralympic programmes a good marker as we finish the season and look ahead to next year and qualification for the 2024 Paris Games.”

The championships run from September 18-25 – the women’s quadruple sculls heats are currently set to take place on September 19 with the finals on September 24.
