SERVING coffee by day and cocktails by night, Emily’s Café Bar offers something for everyone.
From cocktail classics to unique concoctions, the Springfield Street bar has a lot to offer.
So during last weekend’s heatwave, I thought I’d head to Emily’s on a Saturday night to try their cocktail menu.
I got there just before 7pm and although it was fairly busy, myself and a friend managed to get a table outside.
We were impressed in particular by the menu which offers an extensive range of cocktails.
Emily's offers a number of classics, but there is also a wide variety of unique drinks that you would struggle to find elsewhere.
There are also a number of dessert-based cocktails which would be a perfect alternative for after a meal when you're too full for a pudding.
And if you are looking to keep the cost down, the bar offers a two for £15 deal all day, every day for set cocktails.
There are also other alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available.
And during the day the venue offers a coffee and cake deal for just £5 before 5pm.
Here’s a snippet of the cocktail menu and what we thought:
Dirty Banana
Containing: Rum, Kahlúa and banana.
I had never come across a banana-based cocktail before, but it sounded refreshing in the hot weather so I decided to give it a go.
It didn’t disappoint.
The Dirty Banana has a milkshake-like consistency so is for those who prefer creamier-based beverages.
It was very unusual and I’d definitely get it again next time.
Violet Summer Night
This drink contains crème de Violette elderflower liqueur gin, prosecco and lavender bitters.
Opting for a refreshing drink of a different nature, next up was the Violet Summer Night.
This had a strong hint of Parma Violets and reminded us of an Aperol Spritz-style drink.
It was very refreshing and not too fizzy – providing a great alternative to a classic violet-based gin and lemonade.
Naughty Lau
Containing amaretto, blackberry, triple sec and cola is the Naughty Lau.
This has more of an alcohol-based taste so is a great option for those who are fans of amaretto.
It is a unique and refreshing alternative to a classic amaretto and coke.
Salted Caramel-tini
The Salted Caramel-tini contains caramel vodka, Irish cream whiskey and Maldon.
This was such a unique dessert-based cocktail, it is no surprise that it is a firm favourite at Emily’s.
It was delicious and would work great after a meal when you have no room for a pudding.
Although it may sound sickly to some, it is served in a Martini glass so is just the right amount.
Bakewell Tart
This contains amaraetto, Chambord, Frangelico and cream.
This cocktail does what it says on the tin – it tastes like a Bakewell Tart in liquid form.
Although this might sound questionable, it is delicious.
Again, this just adds to Emily’s great range of dessert-based cocktails on offer.
Piña Colada
If you like Piña Coladas… then you should try Emily’s version.
Saving the best till last, the Piña Colada contains rum, pineapple, coconut and cream.
This is the bar’s most popular cocktail for a reason, it is a classic done right.
It is the perfect combination of cream and coconut.
On top of the fantastic cocktails, the lovely decor, attentive staff, and additional touches (of popcorn and sweets) made for a great experience.
So next time you're looking for somewhere with a great range of cocktails, you should head to Emily's Café Bar.
