TRAIN users faced disruption due to an emergency incident this morning, Wednesday.

Services were cancelled and disrupted for passengers travelling from Warrington Bank Quay to Liverpool Lime Street, including for those looking to catch connecting trains into the city at Earlestown or Newton-le-Willows.

This was due to a death on the railway between Liverpool Lime Street and Huyton, with all lines blocked for most of the working day.

Train operator Northern encouraged passengers to travel via Warrington Central to get to Liverpool Lime Street or any of the Manchester stations, with the station and services busier than normal.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Huyton railway station at 8.57am today, Wednesday, August 17, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“This incident is not being treated as suspicious and file will be prepared for the coroner.”

A Northern spokesman added: “Services between Liverpool Lime Street and Wigan North Western/Manchester stations are currently being disrupted due to emergency services dealing with an incident.

“Train services running to and from these stations will be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes, with disruption expected until 11.30am.

“Train services are unable to run between Liverpool Lime Street and Huyton in both directions.

“Passengers are advised to travel via Warrington Central for Manchester stations.

“We apologise for the delay to these services and the additional time this may add to your journey today.”
