A CHRISTMAS hamper appeal is under way that residents can support in Warrington and Widnes.

Donations of food items such as tins and toys are welcomed.

Joe Mawdsley, a barber at Arkitect on Sankey Street in Warrington and Widnes Road in Widnes, is promoting the appeal to be able to provide parents and guardians with presents to give to their little ones this festive season.

He said: “I just want to help and give back to the community as much as I can.

“We are starting early to raise as much awareness about it as possible and help as many people as we can.”

As well as the barbers, other drop-off points for donations include Well Iced Therapy on Albert Road in Widnes, SJJ Contracts on Peel House Lane in Widnes and Terry Spencer Boxing and Fitness on Tan House Lane in Widnes.

Simon Smith, director of Well Iced Therapy, added: “We don’t want anyone to miss out this year. Last year people struggled over Christmas and this year is going to be worse.

“We want to provide for as many people who are struggling as people. No child should have to wake up with nothing under the tree. That’s why we are starting now to ensure we have as much as possible to give to people.”
