IF you’re looking for a taste of Greece but have no holiday plans, then the Olive Tree Brasserie is the next best thing.

Located in the heart of Stockton Heath, the eatery opened in 2018 and has since been expanded with a 56-cover rooftop terrace.

Coupled with the sun, the terrace is an inviting element on a summer evening.

So I thought I’d give it a try on a family outing.

Going straight in for the main course, there is a great selection to choose from.

But admittingly, I’d already made my mind up on the lamb kebab before arriving after hearing glowing reviews beforehand.

And it's safe to say it didn’t disappoint (all three of us picked the same thing!)

The lamb comes on a skewer and is served with the option of seasoned fries or herbed rice – or half and half if you’re as indecisive as me.

The meat was tender and cooked to perfection and it was a generous portion size – accompanied by a fresh salad and tzatziki.

After visiting Greece last month, one of my guests opted for his favourite dish there, beef stifado, which could have gone one of two ways.

But his choice paid off as he could barely notice the difference between the two.

The dish contains tender beef, aromatic spices, rich tomato sauce, Greek-style potatoes, and root vegetables.

Another of my fellow diners had the lamb kleftiko which had just the right amount of meat and wasn’t overbearing.

The dish contains a slow-roasted braised lamb on the bone, garlic & herbs, onions, Greek-style roast potatoes and root vegetables.

We felt too full for a dessert but decided to lap up the last few hours of sunshine on the terrace which felt almost like a sanctuary.

Our experience was topped off with the great service.

If you’re wanting to visit this Stockton Heath gem on a budget, it would be worth going along on a two-for-one Tuesday.

I’ll definitely be visiting again.
