A NUMBER of shocking and disturbing crimes were reported in Warrington during the month of July.

We take a look back at some of these frightening incidents reported to police in the town over the past few weeks.

Here are eight such incidents from Warrington during July:

Serious injury from suspected dangerous driving

A MAN was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a bad collision at Bridge Foot on July 12.

Police were called to the major road junction at 10.40pm following reports of a crash in the town centre, with a man unconscious in the road.

On arrival at the scene, officers arrested a man from Bolton on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

One person was hospitalised after suffering severe injuries, with a ‘significant amount’ of first aid given by police and paramedics.

Raging motorist sees armed police response

THE police helicopter and armed officers were deployed in Woolston following a road rage incident on July 11.

Cheshire Police was notified of the incident at around 5.40pm on Woolston Grange Avenue, with the perpetrator allegedly threatening people with a knife.

The caller reported that their vehicle was being attacked by a man, who is then said to have fled the scene.

Teams located and arrested a man hidden in a garden, and he is alleged to have also assaulted two police officers.

Suspected drug driver crashes with child

A SUSPECTED drug driver was arrested following a crash on one of Warrington’s busiest roads.

Cheshire Police attended the scene of the collision on Winwick Road on July 13 near to McDonalds at the junction with Kerfoot Street.

When moving one of the vehicles, officers noticed the smell of cannabis. A specimen was provided by the driver which officers say was positive for the class B drug.

Shockingly, police said that a young child was in the vehicle, and they were subsequently taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

Gang reportedly armed ‘jump’ passing boy

POLICE were called to Stockton Heath on July 22 night after a teenager was ‘jumped’ by a gang reportedly armed with bottles and a knife.

Just after 10.30pm, officers received reports of a teenage boy sustaining an assault.

The incident happened on Alexandra Road where the boy and his two friends were ‘minding their own business’.

The boy was then reportedly attacked before being chased by two males and a female to Burnside Avenue in the village, where a window to a property was also smashed.

Motorist drove wrong way down M62

A DETERMINED driver acted in a shockingly dangerous manner by driving the wrong way down the M62 to evade arrest on July 20.

Harry Hosker was jailed following a prolonged police chase in which he displayed ‘excessive dangerous driving’, even when a stinger punctured all four tyres.

Such was the 27-year-old’s will to escape the attention of police that he ditched his car on the motorway and attempted to flee on foot.

But he was eventually caught by a brave officer who exited his car in the middle of the motorway and brought the criminal to justice.

Suspected drink driver charged after crash

A SUSPECT arrested following a bad crash on the M6 which left a woman with serious injuries was charged by police.

The incident saw the busy motorway closed in both directions on July 27 between junction 21 for Woolston and junction 20 for the M56 at Lymm Interchange.

An air ambulance landed at the scene, with firefighters working to extract casualties from an overturned vehicle, while long tailbacks formed heading for miles.

In the aftermath of the collision, Cheshire Police arrested a man on suspicion of drink driving, and he was later charged to appear in court later this month.

Gang allegedly supplied drugs to prison

DETECTIVES investigating the supply of drugs into a prison in Warrington charged nine people.

In January last year, Cheshire Police conducted five warrants in Crewe and Alsager following an investigation into the supply of drugs at HMP Risley.

Following further enquiries, nine people were charged on July 7 with offences including acquiring criminal property, conveying a list ‘A’ prohibited article into prison and conspiracy to supply drugs.

They are set to appear before Liverpool Crown Court later this month.

Thousands of bees dumped in park

A HIVE containing thousands of bees was dumped in a busy Warrington park.

The hive, described as ‘well-established’, was found in the bushes at Sankey Valley Park on July 1.

Warrington Guardian:

Passers-by said the sight was ‘upsetting’. And they hoped that the bees could be relocated.

It was arranged for a charity to come and rescue them.
