SEB Grindley has completed two events at the Banská Bystrica European Youth Olympic Festival.

He got his week off to a brilliant start.

The 16-year-old Warrington cyclist scooped bronze for Team GB in Slovakia in the boys' time trial against a competitive field, securing his spot on the podium with a time of 10:59.95.

Grindley from Stockton Heath,a member of North Cheshire Clarion Cycling Club, said: “I’m feeling great – it’s a really good feeling to win a medal with all my friends and family here.

"I’ve exceeded my expectations today and I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved.

"I’m also really excited for the road race on Thursday. I think I’m more suited to it than the time trial, so we’ll have to see how it goes!”

Grindley went on to finish 12th in the road race, the highest placed of the British riders.

He became Warrington-based North Cheshire Clarion Cycling Club's first national champion when he won the cyclocross title in the under 14s age group two years ago.

The Year 11 student at The Grange School in Hartford, Northwich, is one of 40 competing for Team GB in the Summer European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF).

Grindley, who is the reigning British Cyclocross Champion at under 16s level having fended off his rivals in January's championships, is among around 3,500 athletes and officials representing 48 European nations across 10 Olympic sports.

This event plays an important role in the development of young British athletes, providing crucial multi-sport event experience and guiding them towards realising their Olympic ambitions.
