A WOOLSTON school has received a makeover thanks to the kind gesture of a Warrington business.

When staff at St Peter’s Catholic Primary School in Woolston called out for a helping hand to smarten up the play areas, a team from Wain Homes sprang into action.

The team came along with their tools and paintbrushes and spent the day doing all the of the jobs that the school’s staff didn’t have time to do.

They transformed the foundation year’s play area by painting and varnishing play equipment, updating the reading hut and garden centre and planting bedding plants for a splash more colour.

The prayer garden was also weeded and replanted and the team also did a general weed and tidy up at the front of the school.

Foundation stage teacher Sarah Wharton said: “I’m smiling away, it’s just what I imagined and more.

“The work was carried out over half term and the children were so excited when they saw the space and have been making the most of the recent wonderful weather to play out.”

Angela Farrelly, the office and premises manager said: “We had so many little jobs which need addressing and sometimes we simply don’t have the time.

“I can't thank everyone at Wain Homes enough.”

The Wain Group celebrates its 50th year in business this year and is marking the milestone through its ‘Helping Hands’ initiative - offering a year of good deeds to the communities in which it works.

Every member of staff can give back a day of their time to their favourite charity, or they can choose to help out at one of its many organised events, a charity, school or local cause throughout the year.

Like St Peter’s it does not have to be one major job, lots of little jobs can add up to making a big difference.

Wain Homes marketing director Jo Scott said: “We really do care about the communities we work in and it was lovely to be able to offer a Helping Hand to this school and make a difference to the children’s play areas.

“It was good to work as a team and we look forward to working on more projects over the coming months.”
