BIRCHWOOD will be brimming with excitement, colour and bouncing with music this weekend.

That is because Birchwood Carnival 2022 takes place on Sunday, June 12 at Birchwood Forest Park.

The annual event always proves to be popular with residents and beyond - and this year is set to be no exception.

A colourful ‘Butterflies, Bees, and Bugs’ themed procession around the park led by Batida Rio Samba Band marks the start of the festivities at 12.40pm.

Next up is the fancy dress competition judging and prize-giving, followed by the official event opening at 1pm.

The afternoon's arena acts include Bob Hogg’s Sheep Dog Display, Wild Wings Birds of Prey, and local acts such as Northern Starr Dance.

There will also be a fun dog show running throughout the afternoon, a large funfair and over 30 charity, craft and commercial stalls to visit.

And the fun doesn’t stop there.

Other attractions this year include a range of food outlets, Zoo 2 U Animals, a climbing wall and rodeo sheep, magic shows, garden games, donkey rides and history displays – most of the activities are free too.

There will also be the chance to join a range of workshops, including drumming, craft and circus skills.

Warrington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for leisure and communities, Cllr Tony Higgins, said: “Birchwood Carnival is always a huge hit in the community, bringing large crowds to the Forest Park to enjoy a day of fun and entertainment for the whole family.

“The organisers have been working as hard as ever to make sure there’s something for everyone to enjoy. There will be plenty to see and do – from music, dance and processions, to animal shows, a funfair, local history displays and much, much more. Make sure you join us for what is sure to be another fantastic carnival.”
