THE Gemini Musical Theatre Company returns to action with two shows this summer.

On July 29 and 30, Alford Hall welcomes ‘Trial By Jury’ by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan and ‘The Zoo’ by Arthur Sullivan and Bolton Rowe.

After over two years in the wilderness of the pandemic, theatre company bosses say they are proud to present not one but two shows in an evening that has been described as having ‘hilariously complex plots and a variety of music that will leave you humming tunes on the way home’.

‘The Zoo’ has been over two years in the planning, with rehearsals starting in January 2020 and only continuing early into this year.

The cast remains the same from those initial rehearsals and the company is now proud to present the show in late July.

‘Trial By Jury’ rehearsals began in January and both musicals are already well into being set and ready for production.

The theatre group returns to Alford Hall after its sell-out show ‘150 Years of Musical Moments’ back in the summer of 2019.

And in the meantime, they held weekly sing-a-longs via Zoom meetings and chairman Danny Shaw put together streamed concerts involving individuals from the group performing their own songs and poems that gave the group an even greater level of togetherness.

Musical director Steve Rayner said: “It’s extremely exciting to be putting on two such contrasting shows musically in one night, which provides a challenge for the performers and a real variety for the listener.”

Danny added: “Both shows are hilarious in their own ways, providing entertainment and laughs all night but you may not want to take the characters home. Best enjoy the shows and leave them in the theatre.”
