PLANS to construct a block of 45 new apartments near to the centre of Lymm village have been revealed.

The ‘high quality retirement living accommodation’ would be build on land at Watercress Farm, off Thirlmere Drive, under an application for planning permission submitted to Warrington Borough Council.

Developer McCarthy Stone says that the scheme ‘represents a great opportunity to develop specialist housing for older people on a site allocated for new homes in Warrington’s emerging Local Plan’.

Flats ‘set amongst attractive landscaped gardens with on-site parking provision’ will be made available for private sale, rent and partial ownership.

The firm says it has carried out a ‘pre-application public consultation’ in the community during which more than 2,000 residents and businesses were invited to give their views, including a virtual exhibition between May 6 and 20.

Divisional managing director Ian Wilkins said: “We are delighted with the response to our proposals, with the several members of the local community expressing interest in the retirement living apartments.

“As well as providing homes more suited to older peoples’ needs, our proposals would therefore free up the local family homes that new residents would move from.

“We were pleased we could still provide so many people the opportunity to view our plans and are happy with the positive responses we’ve received.”
