WARRINGTON Wolves' forward stocks are set for an immediate boost.

NRL side Wests Tigers have confirmed they have released prop forward Thomas Mikaele with immediate effect to take up a deal in Super League, with The Wire believed to be his destination.

Wests confirmed the 24-year-old had penned a two-and-a-half year deal, with an official announcement from Warrington said to be imminent.

> OPINION: Why the signing of Thomas Mikaele appears to tick a lot of boxes for Warrington Wolves

“It’s a good opportunity for Thomas and he leaves our club with the very best wishes," Tigers coach Michael Maguire said.

"I'm sure we'll see Thomas back in the NRL at some stage."

Mikaele was born in New Zealand and is of Samoan descent but has represented Australian Schoolboys during his career.

He made his NRL debut in 2019 for Wests and had made 66 appearances for the club.

Mikaele's signing forms part of a remodelling of the Wire pack, which has come in for plenty of criticism of late.

Catalans pair Sam Kasiano and Gil Dudson are both set to join the club next year although doubts persist about the future of Mike Cooper, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
