A CHAMPION team are being rewarded for their hard work in a maiden league campaign, says the manager.

Pierpoints FC, who are in their first full season in the Warrington and District Football League, have bagged the Division One title, the Division One Supplementary Cup and Depot Cup while also reaching the final of the Guardian Cup.

The Westy Park based side defeated Grappenhall 3-0 to conclude the season with the Supplementary Cup triumph, lifting their spirits three days after the loss to Premier Division champions St Michaels in the Guardian Cup.

Manager Dan Dobbs and coach Roy Sweeney have lifted the club to new heights since taking over at the start of the season.

"The players we have here now are all on the same page and have worked their socks off in training and on match days to get to the fitness levels required to be able to win the league and reach latter stages of cups," said Dobbs.

"As an example, we played three cup games in one week, all went into extra time and we won all three of them.

"The lads are a credit to the club and are now reaping the rewards of a fantastic but hectic first full year in the Warrington league."

He added: "Since pre-season we have worked tirelessly to put very strict rules in place to turn this club into the competitive team it was capable of being.

"I believe we have the best secretary in the Warrington league in Joe Hill who has over 40 years of Warrington league experience.

"Bringing Roy on board as a coach was a massive help also, with his knowledge of the game.

"Having worked with Roy for long periods in football beforehand, it was for me a no brainer to bring him in."

Pierpoints secured the league title with 12 wins and a draw from their 16 matches.

They defeated Bruche Athletic 5-0 on May 3 to pocket the Depot Cup.

And their performances have been appreciated by a growing army of fans.

"The support we have received from our local fans has been nothing short of first class," said Dobbs.

"They come in huge crowds every week to watch us play."

Pierpoints are not about to rest on their laurels though and state they are looking to strengthen the squad for next season with some experience and quality.
