THUGS damaged a much-loved historic pub while trying to break in yesterday evening, Thursday.

Police were called to reports of an attempted burglary and criminal damage at the Raven Inn in Glazebury at around 5.30pm.

The caller reported that two people had attempted to gain entry into the pub, damaging a rear door.

In addition, a tumble dryer and freezer which were outside the premises were also damaged.

Enquiries in relation to the incident remain ongoing and anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire police at https://www.cheshire.police.uk/police-forces/cheshire-constabulary/areas/cheshire/about-us/about-us/provide-more-information-about-an-appeal, or on 101, quoting IML 1267116.

The future of the pub has recently been secured after it sold for £278,000.

The Raven Inn has been under threat for more than three years.

It was the subject of numerous planning bids, including possibly demolition of the building for housing.

In recent months, it has become a home for travellers.

But in April, it was sold to a group of campaigners who now plan to refurbish the building, which has become run down since it closed, and turn it into a community pub.
