TWO of the longest-staying residents at Cheshire Dogs’ Home are looking for their forever homes.

Home manager Anna Stansfield said: “Ex-racing greyhounds often find themselves coming into shelters through no fault of their own.

“They’re great dogs who can make really lovely companions.

“But although greyhounds are rightly famous for their dazzling speed, they’re also very fond of snoozing on sofas, hence their nickname of ‘40mph couch potatoes’!”

Four-year-old Rebel is a sweet boy who really came out of his shell at the home and can be very affectionate with people.

He may need further training, so he needs patient owners who will be willing to put some work in with him to help him reach his true potential.

He needs a home without cats or other small animals, with a secure garden where he can run about and play safely.

He’s sociable with larger dogs and generally good on the lead.

Marley, six, is a lurcher who had been found stray.

A giddy character who loves going on walks, he tends to be friendly with some dog breeds but more vocal with others.

Because of this, he needs to be the only dog in the home, and he also needs a home without cats or other small animals due to his high prey drive – which also means he needs to be kept on the lead in open areas.

He enjoys using his voice to communicate with people and the Dogs’ Home staff love listening to his comical little woofs out on walks.

Once he’s been walked, Marley loves nothing more than to settle down and have cuddles as he loves getting attention and affection.

Two to three short walks a day usually suffice for greyhounds and lurchers.

Their temperaments are typically quizzical, sometimes shy, often sensitive and surprisingly gentle.

“Rebel and Marley are very much in need of loving homes and a second chance in life with the right owners. In return, they have a lot of love to give,” says Anna.

Anyone interested in meeting Rebel or Marley at Cheshire Dogs’ Home with a view to adoption should contact the Dogs’ Home on 0300 102 1212 or visit www.dogshome.net for more information. The Dogs’ Home operates an appointment-only policy.
