THIS is what Warrington Borough Council had to say about the proposed transit site for travellers.
Given the spate of traveller encampments across the town of late – notably 30 caravans gathering at Victoria Park last week – questions have been asked by residents as to what is happening with the £2m site.

As previously reported in 2015, funding has been set aside in the Labour-run council’s capital budget for the facility, which would allow officers to direct groups to the land.
The council say that they ‘remain committed’ to providing the site.
A spokesperson for the council said: “We are fully committed to the delivery of a suitable transit site within the town and recognise the benefits for both the travelling community and our residents.
“A member and officer task group has been established in order to progress the delivery of this site, and although both members and officers of the task group acknowledge the difficulties of progressing the site given constraints on the availability of appropriate land within Warrington for such a facility, we remain committed to finding the right solution.”
