A SERIAL thief with an ‘appalling record’ has become the latest prisoner to abscond from HM Prison Thorn Cross.

Police have confirmed that Scott Henderson fled from the open prison in Appleton Thorn yesterday evening, Tuesday.

Officers are working to locate the 36-year-old, who was part-way through serving a five-year prison sentence for burglary and aggravated vehicle taking.

Henderson, formerly of Tottington in Bury, is known to frequent Bury, Radcliffe and Tottington areas.

He was jailed at Minshull Street Crown Court in April 2020 after admitting three counts of burglary, one of aggravated vehicle taking and two of disqualified driving charges.

In one of the burglaries, the victim was woken by Henderson intruding in his home, while another saw him steal a mobile phone and a bike while the homeowner was out walking her dog.

The court heard that he has been jailed for burglary several times previously.

He was at large for around 26 hours before being caught hiding under a pile of clothes at a relative’s home and was handed a further year behind bars.

Kurt Walmsley was serving a stretch in the Appleton Thorn jail in March for a high-speed police chase when he absconded. He was caught and sentenced to a further eight months behind bars.
