POLICE have issued a warning to people who own motorbikes in an area of Warrington.

Officers in Latchford have sent a plea to bikers following a spate of thefts over recent days and weeks.

Cheshire Police has circulated a series of top tips for bikers to ensure their bikes are secure and to deter thieves.

In an update, the force’s Latchford East and West Police teams said: “Motorbike thefts have increased in the Latchford area recently, with attempts in both the east and west.

“Follow these tips to keep your ride safe.”

Always use the steering lock and remove the keys, even if you are close by or away for a few minutes, as it only takes a few seconds for a thief to steal it.

Park under CCTV where possible or in a well-lit area, with a chain through the back wheel tied to a fixed object such as a lamppost.

Thieves often target particular bike models, so using a cover makes it less attractive, while installing a tracking device is a good way to locate your bike if it is stolen.
