CRIME in Warrington is up more than 60 per cent since last year.

There is now more reported crime in Warrington Town Centre than there was 12 months ago - seeing an increase of 62 per cent between March 2021 and February 2022.

According to the latest data released by Police.uk, the most common reported crime that occured in Warrington in Februrary were violent and sexual offences - with 43 being reported.

Public order and anti-social behaviour incidents were the next most-common reported crimes.

Almost 50 incidents from February are currently under investigation, with 33 investigations complete that have identified no suspect.

Seven incidents are awaiting a court outcome.

Although February this year saw a significant increase in crimes reported last year, it is a noticeable fall compared to the beginning of this year - which saw 230 reported incidents. 

This makes January 2022 the worst month for reported crime in the last year.

More than 30 incidents were reported as taking place near The Friar Penketh and Postern Gate pubs in the town centre - meaning that the area had the most incidents in February of any area within the town centre's boundary.
