JODIE Cunningham played a starring role as Saints won the Women's Rugby League Challenge Cup at Elland Road, home of Leeds United.

The Saints skipper, who was joined in the team by fellow Warringtonians Tara Jones and the Rudge sisters Emily and Isabelle, scored the try that put her side in front for the first time with 12 minutes left to play.

Cunningham's score was a dive over the line between two defenders after a powerful surge from first receiver.

A further Saints try nailed a tough contest 18-8 and allowed Cunningham to raise the silverware as captain for the second year in a row.

The England international featured at loose-forward, while Jones was at hooker, Isabelle Rudge at prop and her older sibling Emily - the national team skipper - on the bench.

Cunningham and the Rudges are former students of Cardinal Newman High School, while Jones, who is also a Rugby Football League match official, hails from Penketh.
