ONE of the pioneers of the original punk scene will get Warrington rocking this summer.

Stiff Little Fingers are returning to Warrington to keep flying the flag for a chaotic yet hugely influential era in music.

Led by Jake Burns since 1977, the band – formed in Belfast – will be raising the roof at Parr Hall on Friday, 15 July.

Joining ranks with the likes of The Clash, Sex Pistols, The Damned, Buzzcocks and Undertones, they helped usher in a new era of music and they are still keeping that spirit alive 45 years on.

Jake and his friends were just teens when they were exposed to a world of mohawks, fast, raucous guitar riffs and people sticking their middle finger up at the establishment and mainstream.

Inspired by what they saw and experienced, Stiff Little Fingers quickly formed and went on to become an integral part of the punk movement.

Initially, they wrote about their own lives, growing up at the height of The Troubles in Northern Ireland, with songs like Suspect Device and Wasted Life.

That caught the eyes of BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel who became a fan and the band recorded a session with the renowned new music champion in 1978 which saw their popularity continue to grow.

Stiff Little Fingers have enjoyed a loyal following since and, apart from a brief pause between 1982 and 1987, they have been a consistent part of the rock scene with 10 studio albums under their belt.

And they will continue to keep the punk rock flag flying in Warrington this summer.
