A GREAT Sankey company has adopted a four-day working week to reward its team with a better work-life balance.

Gareth Boldsworth and Paul Chisnall, owners of CreativeHUT, are always looking at ways to improve company culture and thought a shorter working week would be a great way.

The four-day working week at the STEAM education company, based in the Tim Parry Jonathan Ball Peace Centre, has come into effect this week.

The team discovered that they became more productive when working together on large projects so owners Gareth and Paul decided to focus on team output rather than hours in the office.

They thought that if the team can be more focused across a shorter space of time, it would make sense to reward them with a better work-life balance.

So they decided to introduce a four-day working week.

The working week will be Monday to Thursday and each day will be extended by an hour with a flexible start time.

Michael Lyon, senior creative consultant, said: “Having the weekend start on a Friday for me makes you feel like you have a little holiday every week.

"If I have a DIY project on in the house, I can do it and still have a nice relaxing day before I am back in the office.

“We have staff with young families so this allows more time for them to dedicate to their children too.

“There are a few of us who love cycling and will be dedicating some of these Fridays to training together for a big ride we have in the summer.”

Staff member Theresa Amann added: “I think this an exciting and brave decision - the way forward for more motivated and generally happy employees.

“It will make us as a team more productive through slightly more intense working days, it will give us more room for creativity and a needed rest through a shorter week. Instantly a better work-life balance and just in general more quality time with friends and family.

“And not to forget that it will make childcare a lot easier with no loss of income.”

CreativeHUT also has a ‘flexi’ working week – with one day working from home and the other three days in the office.
