ONE lucky band has been chosen to open the main stage on the Sunday at Neighbourhood Weekender 2022 - and for them, they say it is like playing Glastonbury.

The choices came from the Riv Fest 2022 line-up and it is euphoric indie four-piece Foxglove – who say the festival is close to their hearts – who are set to grab the opportunity with both hands at Neighbourhood.

The band – which comprises twins in guitarist Ryan Croney and drummer Liam Croney, singer Abi White and bassist Joe Myers – are overjoyed to be involved on May 29.

“We were supposed to play Riv Fest last year and Liam got Covid,” said Abi.

“It was the first festival we had ever been booked for so we couldn’t play it.

The 24-year-old continued: “This year it came about and we thought we have to apply and there was the Neighbourhood element as well which was mad.

“We never thought we would get the Neighbourhood festival spot.”

Liam took to Victoria Park last year to watch Catfish and the Bottlemen headline.

He said: “A year later to think that I’ll be opening that, it’s crazy.”

Ryan and Abi were in Aldi shopping during the news, shared a hug and bought a bottle of prosecco instead

“I don’t think it’s settled in yet. Every time I think about it I have this sick feeling in my stomach, it’s crazy," added Ryan.

“Even just having an artist card with our face surrounded by Neighbourhood. I wouldn’t have thought I would have seen that in one million years. It’s like playing Glastonbury to us, it’s that sort of feeling.

“We couldn’t be more grateful for it.

“When I play gigs and there is a big crowd I normally keep my head down and do what I’m doing. After this, I will probably think that ‘I didn’t see much of that’ but the feeling will be mostly there with me.

“We want people to feel euphoric.”

Their adventure started with the twins in university and grew wings when they found singer Abi White on Instagram.

After practising with Abi, they knew she would be ‘the one’.

Their previous bassist left and that left an opening for Joe and following a few auditions he was in.

Now, they are flying.

The four cite Wolf Alice, The 1975 and Bombay Bicycle Club as inspirations and are ‘massively influenced’ by the 80s era too.

Ryan, 25, continued: There are guitar synths and guitar melodies, Liam plays hip hop beats and Abi is into Kylie (Minogue).

“We incorporate lots of types of music.

“It’s also very energetic – you won’t just be stood there.”

Neighbourhood Weekender takes place May 28 and 29.
