A CULCHETH teenager has raised almost £10,000 for Alder Hey children's hospital.

Harvey Ackerley, 16, had sternal wires removed one year ago following his open-heart surgery at the hospital, and is now raising money for the team at Alder Hey, in Liverpool.

The ex-Culcheth High School student was nominated by Alder Hey in February to have a VIP experience watching Manchester United from a box, organised by the Barrie Wells Trust.

Harvey has raised more than £9,000 since his JustGiving page was set up by his mum, Gemma, when he went for surgery.

The page's target was £1,000, and the donations soon smashed that target, and now Harvey wants to hit £15,000 before his 17th birthday in less than two weeks' time.

Harvey, who now studies at Winstanley College, took part in a sponsored skydive on Saturday, April 23, and has his sights set on the Snowdon Night Summit this Saturday.

Not only this, but the Culcheth teenager was given a signed Manchester United shirt by the Applebridge family, and he has decided to auction it off to contribute to his Alder Hey fundraiser.

Harvey and his family are now trying to hit that £15,000 target by May 2, Harvey's 17th birthday.
