THE construction of new apartments on the site of a former pub in Penketh is continuing apace.

Work to demolish the Penketh Tavern and build 30 flats in its place first began in summer last year.

And the progression of the units on Greystone Road is now well underway, with the framework of the building appearing to be largely complete.

Warrington Housing Association was granted planning permission for the development upon appeal to the Secretary of State in August 2020.

A range of one and two-bedroom units will be created as part of the scheme, which is intended for the over 55s.

Warrington Guardian:

It is anticipated that the first residents could move in as early as summer this year.

WHA says it has invested ‘substantial’ finances into the project, with grants having also been provided by Homes England.

Warrington Guardian:

Chairman Judith Winterbourne previously said: “This will be a high-quality development to reflect Warrington Housing Association’s continued commitment to substantial investment in the borough to help make Warrington a great place to live.

“We are helping to address the housing needs of local older people, as well as boosting local employment and supply opportunities.”

Warrington Borough Council initially turned down the application in December 2019, but this decision was later overturned by the Planning Inspectorate.

Kingsmead Construction Ltd is carrying out the building work alongside PRP Architects, Markhams Ltd, Sutcliffe Ltd and Broadgrove Planning and Development.
