THE University of Chester’s Padgate campus has been put for sale.

Its Warrington site is in the process of being moved into the town centre, with locations at the new £142million Time Square development and Mersey Bank House – a former HM Revenue and Customs office – on Barbauld Street.

And the uni has now instructed real estate agents Cushman and Wakefield to launch the selling process for its 33-acre plot at Crab Lane.

It is anticipated that the land will be used for housing, with the firm stating that it will be ‘highly attractive for residential development’.

The vendor is seeking offers to be submitted by the end of May.

Cushman and Wakefield adds that the lot ‘provides an opportunity to deliver a high quality new residential community of scale in a sought after location’.

Meanwhile, the future developer will be ‘expected to deliver a scheme which meets high standards of design and environmental sustainability to ensure a positive long-term legacy’.

Warrington Guardian:

Company associate Hannah Gradwell said: “We are delighted to bring the Padgate campus site to market on behalf of the University of Chester and anticipate strong interest in this substantial and extremely well-located development site.

“It offers fantastic potential to deliver a high-quality development which will make a key contribution towards meeting local housing need but also deliver a lasting legacy through enhanced placemaking, design and sustainability credentials.”

The university will open its new bases in September this year, with the tax office set to be renamed Sarah Park Remond House in honour of the prominent abolitionist and women’s rights campaigner – who gave a series of lectures at the Warrington Music Hall and the Red Lion Hotel during the 1800s.

Planning permission for the Time Square move was granted in May last year, which an application has been lodged with Warrington Borough Council for the conversion of Mersey Bank House.
