A WOMAN who fell into the River Mersey at Bridgefoot has been plucked to safety in a dramatic rescue.
Police were called to reports for concern of the safety of a woman shortly before 10am on Saturday.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “Officers quickly attended the scene and spoke with the woman.
“The woman entered the water and was rescued by emergency services on scene.
“She was taken to hospital for further checks.”
The alarm was raised on Wilson Patten Street at 9.52am.
Firefighters used a raft to reach the woman. Crews were also on the riverbank with throw lines.
Fire engines from Penketh, Lymm, Widnes and Birchwood along with the aerial ladder platform from Lymm dealt with the incident.
