WARRINGTON Wolves head coach Daryl Powell has confirmed the injury situation with prop forward Joe Bullock.

The former Wigan front rower, who joined the Wire in the close season and has been a prominent feature in the opening games to the 2022 season, is sidelined with an elbow injury.

“It’s disappointing because I thought he was going pretty well, particularly carrying the ball,” said Powell, who selected Bullock from the start in last week’s 28-2 loss at St Helens.

“So it’s disappointing for him and for us. He’s probably going to be four to five weeks. It’s a tough one, but it is what it is playing in a tough old game.”

The timing is not great for Wolves, who have also lost the services of fellow front-rower Robbie Mulhern for tomorrow’s Super League Round 6 clash with Wakefield Trinity at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, kick-off 12.30pm.

Powell spoke about the changes forced by their absences and the options available to him, which could include a first appearance this season by Rob Butler who finished last year on loan at Leigh Centurions and has been performing well for the reserves.

“Obviously Rob Butler hasn’t played yet and Matty Davis comes back in after suspension, so that’s how we compensate,” said Powell.

“Ollie Holmes has spent some time in the middle in the past as well. He’s pretty good in there, particularly defensively he’s outstanding.

“We’ve got options there, Ellis Longstaff as well who can play back row or in the middle.

“We’re pretty thin in terms of middle unit players but it is what it is, every team goes through this at some time in the season and here we are with a few injuries in that department at the moment.”
