A MAN fell from a railway bridge in Warrington into a passing freight train below.
Police are investigating the incident which happened in the early hours of Saturday.
The 22-year-old man, from Birkenhead, Wirral, was only discovered when the train arrived at Hope, in the Peak District in Derbyshire, at 6am on Saturday.
He had to be rescued from a coal wagon by firefighters.
The injured man is now being treated at the burns unit of Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester, where his condition is described as comfortable. His injuries may have been caused by electricity.
Cheshire Police are now investigating the incident and are trying to account for his movements in the time leading up to his fall into the train. They say the man had travelled by train from the Wirral to Warrington on Friday night.
Police are discounting the theory that he had been abducted. They have not received a formal complaint from the man.
