A DRINK driver led police on a car chase down one of Warrington’s busiest roads.

Neil Howarth, from Orford, failed to stop for officers during the incident on Chester Road on Monday, January 31.

When his Renault Megane was eventually brought to a halt on the stretch of the A5060 between Brian Bevan Island and the swing bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal, he was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

A breathalyser test found that he had 51 micrograms of alcohol in his system for every 100ml of breath, the legal limit being 35.

The 49-year-old, of Leonard Street, also had no licence or insurance.

His actions put him in breach of supervision requirements following his release from prison in September last year, having been locked up in July 2021.

Appearing before Warrington Magistrates Court on Friday, February 18, Howarth admitted failing to stop for police, drink driving, driving without a licence, driving without insurance and failing to comply with supervision requirements.

He was banned from the roads for 14 months, while his driving record will be endorsed.

Magistrates also told him to pay a £300 fine and a £38 victim surcharge.
