POLICE are urging residents not to be lured in by a fraudulent scheme being deployed by criminals.

Officers from Cheshire Police say they are receiving reports of men going door-to-door in south Warrington claiming to be from the prison rehabilitation scheme selling household products.

According to the force, there is no such thing as the prison rehabilitation scheme.

It has led to one fraudulent transaction where a card payment was requested for £19.99, however when the resident looked at their account, £199 had been taken.

A social media post by the force’s Lymm Police account read: “We are receiving more reports of males knocking on doors in south Warrington claiming to be from the prison rehabilitation scheme selling household products to residents.

“I have attached a document which advises that this scheme is not a genuine scheme. There is no such thing as the prison rehabilitation scheme.
