FOLLOWING the news of the Downing Street ‘garden party’, we have looked back at court cases of people from Warrington who were fined for breaching coronavirus restrictions.

At the time of the ‘bring your own booze’ party in May 2020, the rest of the country was banned from meeting more than one person from outside of their household.

And according to the Evening Standard, a total of 118,963 fines were processed by police between March 27, 2020, and December 16, 2021 for those who flouted restrictions in place.

Here are five Warrington residents who were fined for breaching coronavirus restrictions:

A Padgate woman was ordered to pay £1,760 by the courts after she breached tier four Covid restrictions in February last year.

The case of Georgeta-Gabriela Mihalache, of Marsh House Lane, Padgate, was heard at Wirral Magistrates’ Court on December 17.

She was found in Liverpool in February - flouting Warrington's tier four restrictions.

The case was proved in her absence and Mihalache was charged with a person leaving a tier four area they were living in without reasonable excuse.

With victim surcharge costs and court costs, the 38-year-old had to pay £2,036.00 for this offence.

 

A 21-year-old from Great Sankey was also caught flouting restrictions in March 2021.

Spencer Williams, of Cheddington Crescent, Great Sankey, left Warrington, which was under tier four restrictions, to travel to Blackpool.

The case of Williams appeared before Preston Magistrates’ Court in November where he was charged with a person leaving a tier four area they were living in without reasonable excuse.

Williams pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined £842.

Tier four restrictions were breached by a man travelling from Warrington to St Helens in February last year.

The case of Keiron Harrop, of Grasmere Avenue, Poplars and Hulme, appeared before Wirral Magistrates’ Court and was proved in his absence.

Harrop was charged with participating in a gathering of more than two people in a public outdoor place in a tier four area.

The 23-year-old was fined over £2,000 for this offence.

This included a £1,760 fine, court costs of £100 and a victim surcharge fee of £176.

 

A Latchford man was among those paying more than a £2,000 fine for leaving Warrington in February last year.

Sean Fathers, of Woolacombe Close, Latchford, travelled to Liverpool despite being subject to tier four restrictions in Warrington.

The case of Fathers, 27, was proved in his absence at Wirral Magistrates’ Court.

He was charged with a person leaving a tier four area they were living in without reasonable excuse.

Fathers was handed a £1,760 fine, ordered to pay a victim surcharge fee of £176 as well as having to pay £100 in court costs.

 

Another fine was handed to a Howley man who was found to be ‘participating’ in a gathering in January 2021.

At the time, Warrington was under tier four restrictions, but Adi Catalin Mirea was found in a property in Warrington with two or more people.

Mirea, of Hardy Street, pleaded guilty to participating in a gathering of two or more people in a private dwelling or indoors in a tier four area.

The 31-year-old appeared before Chester Magistrates’ Court where he was fined £359 in total.
