AN employee who has gone above and beyond to fundraise for charity and volunteer in the community has been nominated for an honour.

James Woods, who works at Amazon Warrington's Great Sankey warehouse, was ‘surprised but humbled to have been nominated for an Amazon Star award.

This is in recognition of his outstanding efforts and voluntary work in supporting the community, which includes supporting the fundraising efforts of Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Charity.

The Amazon Star programme, now in its second year, is a UK-wide Amazon competition seeking to recognise and reward employees who make an outstanding contribution to their community through volunteering, fundraising and using their unique skills and talents to help others.

“It came as such a surprise to me to find out that I had been nominated for an Amazon Star award,” James said.

“I have built such good relationships with the team here at Amazon in Warrington and it is humbling to know that people think so highly of me.

“It sounds corny, but I cannot praise the team that I work with or the job that we do enough, so it is an honour to be nominated for an Amazon Star award.”

A team leader at Amazon Warrington, James was nominated by his colleagues for getting involved in many events at the fulfilment centre, including becoming a first aider and encouraging his colleagues to have fun on site.

He was also praised for his community efforts outside work; namely his involvement with a fundraising boat race for Alder Hey.

During the pandemic, after witnessing the impact of lockdown on his son, James, who joined Amazon in 2020, set up a sports programme for local children aged two to four.

The programme is aimed at supporting the social development of these children and caters to over twenty children per session.

Amazon Warrington Site Leader, Tony Carr, added: “James is a much loved and highly valued member of our team and we’re so pleased he has been nominated for an Amazon Star award.

“Everyone at Amazon in Warrington wishes James the best of luck ahead of the judging of this year’s competition.”

James’s work in the community means he is in with a chance of winning one of three dream boxes – the top prize awarded as part of the programme.

A dream box is a special delivery, worth £2,000, containing a personalised top prize to honour Amazon’s community heroes.

James will find out if he has won a dream box in the coming weeks.
