WARRINGTON Athletics Club's Ben Woods produced probably the bravest run of the day as he lost a shoe after around 200 metres of the under 13s boys' race in the Cheshire Cross Country Championships at Pickmere.

He continued without the shoe and completed the treacherously muddy course at The Farm Club in Pickmere in 13th place to secure his team a bronze medal.

It was only after he finished that Ben discovered he had actually been spiked as his shoe was pulled off and his heel was badly cut.

Being knee-deep in mud in places and full of puddles in others, Woods had clubmates who were impacted with footwear issues too.

At the same age level Emily Kinsey lost a shoe on the course but finished fifth to help the team win a bronze medal.
