RESIDENTS who are tempted to use dishwashers and washing machines overnight have been warned of the potential hazards by firefighters.

This comes after the crew from Warrington Fire Station was called upon to tackle an outbuilding fire in Hermitage Green in the early hours of Friday morning.

Assisted by firefighters from Greater Manchester, the crew attended the blaze on Gerosa Avenue at 4.08am.

On arrival at the scene, the discovered that the fire had broken out in the outhouse of a semi-detached bungalow.

The occupants were accounted for and assessed by paramedics as a precaution.

Meanwhile, fire crews wore breathing apparatus while tackling the blaze with two hose reels.

They used cutting equipment and lighting gear to assist them, and once the fire was extinguished, they used a large fan to clear the smoke.

Posting on social media afterwards, Warrington Fire Station said: “Do not leave appliances such as dishwashers, tumble dryers and washing machines on when you are out or asleep.

“In the UK, house fires involving white goods happen almost every day.”
