A JUNIOR rugby league team are set to take on a 56-mile walk – beginning at midnight.
Latchford Giants u16s will be embarking on the challenge, setting off from their home base of Victoria Park in the early hours before touring the rugby league towns of the north west.
Their first stop will be Salford followed by Leigh, Wigan, St Helens and Widnes before returning to Warrington with an anticipated finish time of 7pm.
It is part of the team’s fundraising for their upcoming tour of France, which will come at a cost of £12,000.
To date, members have raised around £8,000 with previous efforts including a marathon during lockdown.
Coach David Manfredi said: “We’re doing a tough challenge to raise money and give the lads the opportunity of a lifetime.
“They’re buzzing for it, they can’t wait.
“It will be tough, because it’s going to be freezing at midnight and walking that distance won’t be fun.
“But it’s something we all wanted to go for.
“This is the final push – this is going to be our last fundraiser, so we’re going to give it everything.”
