JIMMY Byrne was the winner of this week’s Mersey Match by a big margin of more than 9½lbs.

He drew peg 71, which is not a known dolly peg by any means, but he persevered with a small groundbait feeder and white maggot at only 10 metres.

Jimmy only had two small roach after two or three hours but eventually the tip went round and it was bream time.

He added two bream and a skimmer to his roach brace, with the biggest bream being over 5lbs giving him a winning weight of 10lbs 13ozs 0drs.

Ray Boden also fished the tip and took second place after his only bite of the day produced a hybrid of 1-4-0.

As you can imagine there were a few dry nets among the 14 anglers in the winter conditions.

Our Disabled and Over 60s Monday match this week was called off by the members due to the Bridgewater Canal at Walton being iced over.

The online renewals for both 2022 memberships and night permits are now live on the association’s website, plus all current rules can be accessed from the homepage.

The Cicily Mill Pool volunteers are out again this week continuing with weed removal around pegs and general improvements.

Our WAA headquarters at 52, Parker Street, Warrington, remain closed but members can post to this address, or, put their book or request in an envelope – with their payment and a stamped addressed envelope – through our HQ door where mail is collected and dealt with most days.
