WARRINGTON Borough Council is set to begin work on a new strategy to identify the type of housing needed in the town in the coming years.

It will be consulting with a range of partners early next year to support the development of a new housing strategy.

These will include several organisations – both in Warrington and other areas – who have an interest in housing for the borough and who will help inform the strategy, which is expected to launch by summer 2022.

The three-year strategy will set out the council’s approach to the future of housing in Warrington.

It aims to specifically address the demand for different types of housing and will support and ‘work in concert’ with the emerging local plan.

In particular, the strategy will look at how the council can work in co-ordination with partners – both from the public and private sector – to help turn the strategy into delivery, as well as the timescales for this delivery.

Cllr Hitesh Patel, the council’s cabinet member for environment, housing and public protection, said: “It’s vital that we support Warrington’s ongoing growth by creating the environment for the delivery of the right types of homes, in the right places, which meet local demand.

“The development of our new housing strategy will be an important part of this, helping guide our overall approach – with partners – to deliver a bright future for housing in Warrington.”
