THE leading runners and teams going into the final round of the Neville Jones Schools Cross Country League are now confirmed.

Youngsters from primary and high schools across Warrington will battle it out for the prizes in this popular event when the third and final round takes place at Walton Hall and Gardens on Saturday, December 11.

The usual large turnout tackled good running conditions in the second round of the series organised by Warrington Athletics Club.

In the year 4/5 girls’ race, Amelie Johnson (St Philip Westbrook) turned the tables from the first round as she took the win ahead of Pippa Wall (Culcheth)in 6mins 07secs with the victory gap being nine seconds. Third place went to Beth Lowe (St Monica’s) in 6mins 24secs.

After two races Amelie and Pippa are level on 3pts apiece with Beth in third place on 6pts.

In the team event Culcheth took first place on 42pts from St Monica’s on 58pts and St Philip on 65pts. After two races the same three teams have the first three places in the same order on 95, 96 and 161pts respectively.

In the year 4/5 boys’ competition, Breeze Simmons (St Peter’s ) made a huge improvement from the first race climbing from 14th to winning in 5mins 52secs.

Hot on his heels were Eddie Walker (Cherry Tree) in 5mins 53secs and Ashton Illingworth (Great Sankey) in 5mins 57secs. After two races Eddie leads with 3pts from Ashton on 5pts and Cormac Kennedy (St Monica’s) and Sam Rodgers (Culcheth) level in third place on 9pts.

St Monica’s won the team event on 48pts, ahead of Cherry Tree on 71pts and Culcheth on 73pts. The league’s leading three teams are the same on 95, 103 and 109pts respectively.

Eva May Williams (St Wilfrid’s) took the win in the year 6 girls’ race in 8mins 10secs, with Eva Hayes (Broomfields) 8mins 13secs and Emma Thornton (Cherry Tree) 8mins 18secs following her over the line. The two Evas are level on 4pts going into the final round, with Annie Noone (St Monica’s) third on 10pts.

St Monica’s won the team event in round two with 35pts, scoring ahead of St Wilfrid’s 44pts and Cherry Tree 46pts. After two races St Monica’s lead on 61pts from St Philip 97pts and St Peter’s 195pts.

In the year 6 boys’ competition, Euan Lawton (Great Sankey) continued his winning ways in 7mins exactly from Isaac McGuffie (Broomfields) 7mins 05secs and Oliver Davenport (Croft) 7mins 19secs. After two races Euan leads on 2pts ahead of Oliver on 5pts with Jake Harrison (Cherry Tree) third on 7pts.

St Wilfrid’s won the team event in the second round with 48pts, fending off Broomfields on 50pts and St Peter’s on 81pts. St Wilfrid’s are the only team to have completed both rounds, securing them 90pts.

Emily Kinsey (King’s) was first over the line in the year 7 girls’ race with 13mins 06secs. Sophie Parkinson (Lymm)13mins 32secs and Orlaith Clarke-Malone (St Gregory’s) 13mins 54secs followed her home.

After two races Emily leads on 2pts from Miley Pender (Culcheth) on 7pts and Poppy McGready (Great Sankey) on 8pts. No teams have completed both races.

In the year 7 boys’ competition, Dylan Langley (St Gregory’s) won with 12mins 30secs just ahead of Sid Tasker (Lymm) 13mins 34secs and Joe McDonald (Lymm) 13mins 36secs. After the two rounds Dylan leads on 4pts from Sid on 6pts and Joe on 8pts.

The team event was won by Lymm on 16pts who kept at bay Bridgewater 38pts and Beamont 56pts. This means that Lymm lead the league on 35pts, with Beamont second on 119pts and they are the only complete teams over the two races.

In year 8/9 girls, Imogen Wharton (Cardinal Newman) was again a convincing winner in 11mins 40secs with her nearest challengers being Ellie Barker (Boteler) 13mins 02secs and Hannah Hull (King’s) 13mins 04secs.

After two races Imogen leads on 2pts from Ellie on 4pts and Hannah on 6pts. No teams have completed both races in this age group.

Jack Marwood (Lymm) was a convincing winner in the year 8/9 boys’ race in 10mins 13secs, with Jacob Pryor (King’s) second in 13mins 49secs and Matthew Seddon (Cardinal Newman) third in 11mins 15secs.

Going into the league’s find round, Matthew leads on 4pts from Euan Flannery (Bridgewater) on 7pts with Seb Hampson (Bridgewater) and Daniel Olateju (Beamont) equal third on 15pts.

In the team event Bridgewater won on 26pts from Lymm 39pts and Cardinal Newman 43pts. Bridgewater are the only team to complete both races on 57pts.

In the year 10/11 girls’ event, Evie Owen (Beamont) won in 13mins 28secs with a 14 seconds gap over Eleanor Grace (St Gregory’s). Molly Wormald (Boteler) was third in 14mins 56secs. After two races Evie leads on 3pts from Molly 4pts and Eleanor 6pts. No teams have completed both races.

Ben Pucill (Great Sankey) repeated his win from the first year 10/11 boys’ race in 11mins exactly. Behind him were David Baker (Lymm) 12mins exactly and Kieryan Blags (Great Sankey) third in 12mins 47secs.

After two races Ben leads on 2pts from David 4pts and Tony Madew (Great Sankey) third on 7pts. No teams have completed either race.
