WHEN you have visited a place more times than you perhaps cared to remember, it is great to get a different perspective.

And that is very much case at the new Luminate winter trail at Walton Gardens.

For the first time, the jewel in Warrington's crown is hosting a light trail through the gardens starting tonight, Wednesday, and running every night until Christmas Eve.

And it is intriguing to see the beautiful parkland light up in different colours.

The hall, pond and glasshouses look great while twinkling fairy lights guide you on a trail that takes in most of the estate, starting at the heritage courtyard and stretching around the formal gardens before finishing past the play area and back at the entrance bridge.

Little ones (and the young at heart) will love little touches like the talking tree, dancing fairies, glitter balls and the light show on the historic hall itself.

While the bowling green has been converted into one of the most dazzling installations.

There are also laser beams, a dome straight out of the Crystal Maze and a plenty of arches for your Instagram selfies.

Make sure you stop to toast at marshmallow on cold winter night while there are hot and cold drinks, mulled wine and churros if you fancy a food and drink stop.

The light night space has become a very crowded winter space, think Chester Zoo, Dunham Massey and Knowsley Safari Park to name but three.

So it is nice to have one you don't have to travel for.

Unlike those, this is more winter than festive, so don't expect to see Santa, reindeer or Christmas trees.

But if you are a regular at Walton Gardens, you will love this fresh chance to explore the amazing grounds in a new light.

Tickets are available at waltonhallgardens.co.uk/events/luminate-at-walton-hall-and-gardens/.

They start from £48 for a family Monday to Wednesday.
