BRILLIANT tries by John Lowe and Alan Whittle are the highlights of the latest cine film footage published here for the very first time.

The 1973-74 season Club Championship play-offs are the focus, with Lowe's try coming in the 34-12 home win against Hull FC on April 21, 1974.

Whittle's score came in the second round six days later when The Wire defeated Bradford Northern 15-9, with both games taking place at Wilderspool Stadium.

Also featuring prominently in the footage are Kevin Ashcroft, Mike Nicholas, Brian Brady, Parry Gordon, Derek Noonan and Dave Cunliffe.

But it is the two tries on show and the superb celebrations that make this latest amazing footage as good as it is.

Alex Murphy's men went on to defeat Wakefield at home 12-7 in the next round, which came a week before the Challenge Cup Final victory over Featherstone Rovers at Wembley.

A week later Warrington defeated St Helens 13-12 in the Club Championship Final, an achievement which in other years would have seen them crowned champions but that season it was the team who finished top of the table - Salford - who took the title.

The Wire had to be content with also having the John Player Trophy and Captain Morgan Trophy in the cabinet from a wonderful campaign.
