PUPILS at a Warrington primary school will be able to feel closer to nature thanks to a generous donation.

Westbrook Old Hall Primary School says it is ‘delighted’ to receive a £5,000 grant from a business in the town to develop its Forest School.

The funding has been pledged by Lower Walton-based chemical manufacturer Ingevity, with representatives of the firm visiting the Old Hall Road school recently.

It will support the Forest Schools programme, which encourages outdoor learning to develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on lessons in a natural setting.

Upon hearing the news that Ingevity would be supporting Westbrook Old Hall Primary financially, deputy headteacher Mary Brennan could not hide her delight.

“We were very excited to learn of the donation from Ingevity and this has enabled us to get the Forest School up and running,” she said.

“This is a fantastic learning opportunity for our children, as the Forest School aims to help children to build their confidence and self-esteem through hands-on activities in a natural setting.”

A spokesman for Ingevity added: “As a member of the IngeviCares Charity Committee, it is really pleasing to be able to support Westbrook Old Hall Primary School.

“It was great to meet Ms Brennan and it is so rewarding to see how this money will help to build the Forest School that will benefit the children.”
